Nicholas Bauch is a practicing cultural geographer. As a doctoral student in the UCLA Department of Geography, he is writing a book titled "Health and Space: Following food from the soil to the stomach in 19th century America." He lectures the undergraduate course Metropolitan Los Angeles using a theme of "nature in the city" to explore the chaotic, hidden, yet ever-present connections between people and the environment in Southern California. His other research projects include the investigation of poisonous landscapes, hydraulic landscapes, transportation, and the cartography of outer space.
